According to authorities, a boy and his father were killed in an apparent murder-suicide Thursday night in Lower Makefield.

Police were still at the residence in the 500 block of Heritage Oaks Drive on Friday morning, continuing their investigation, which began Thursday evening when they were summoned to the home for a well-being check.

Joseph Rozario Hirudayaraj was 47 years old. Fabian, his kid, was eight years old.

Fabian’s mother, Rozario’s wife, called police just after 6 p.m. to report that she couldn’t reach Joseph Rozario. When she arrived at their house, she saw that all of the doors were locked and called the police, according to Chief Ken Coluzzi.

When authorities glanced through the windows, they observed what appeared to be a boy kneeling face down on the floor of the family room. Officers smashed through the front door and discovered the youngster with a gunshot wound to the back of his head, according to Coluzzi.

According to Coluzzi, Fabian was discovered at the feet of his father, who was reclining on the couch with a gunshot wound to the side of his head. A gun was found.

The couple was not estranged, and the cause is unknown, according to Coluzzi.

The autopsies done by the Bucks County Coroner’s Office on Friday verified the modes of death for Rozario Hirudayaraj and Fabian as suicide and homicide, respectively. Both died from gunshot wounds to the head, according to Bucks County Coroner Meredith Buck in a press release issued Friday afternoon.

Coluzzi said the child was a rising fourth-grader at adjacent Afton Elementary School on Quarry Road in the Pennsbury School District. The school district has been contacted, and grief counselors will be on hand Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“The death of a student is especially tragic and raises many questions that we may not be able to answer right now,” the district noted in a statement put on Afton’s website. “We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support and understanding during this tragic time.”
