It may be a while before fans of Henry Cavill’s Superman see him appear on screen with Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, but by way of some pretty spectacular fan art, the two DC Comics titans can at least square off with one another.

Thanks to artist and illustrator datrintiart, people can witness Henry Cavill’s Superman in his pre-Snyder Cut red and blue suit hovering in the air above Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam. If the man of steel’s clenched fists aren’t enough to give away that he’s spoiling for a fight, perhaps his red heat vision eyes will convey the message.

The image is a clever twist on a photo from the final days of production that was shared by Dwayne Johnson himself on Instagram. The original photo, which is fully black-and-white, shows the muscle-bound actor on the set of the film standing in front of a long pathway in what appears to be some kind of recently destroyed temple. The artist simply took that picture, gave it color, some cool lightning bolts, and restored the temple before adding Superman into the scene. See the original from the set of Black Adam below.

The image is meant as a fun bit of fan art for Dwayne Johnson and Henry Cavill, but it has seemingly whetted people’s appetite to see the two comic book giants go toe-to-toe on screen. As Collider notes, the plot of Black Adam is being kept under wraps, but we know that the character was originally conceived as an outright villain to Zachary Levi’s Shazam! hero. However, over time and given the sheer likeability of Dwayne Johnson, rumors have circulated that Black Adam is becoming more of an anti-hero than a simple evil doer.

As a result, it’s unclear if a situation will ever present itself in the DC Extended Universe for Black Adam and Superman to trade mid-air blows. However, that doesn’t mean that Dwayne Johnson isn’t angling to get his first super character on screen with the notorious gold standard of superheroes for a bout for the ages. After taking on the likes of Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto, countless WWE titans, and Cobra Command in other films, who better to be the actor’s next big bout?

In fact, Geekosity previously reported that Dwayne Johnson has been actively campaigning to get Cavill’s Superman into Black Adam in some way or another, even if it’s just for a small cameo. It wouldn’t be completely out of place given that Black Adam is expected to tie directly into Shazam! And maybe be part of an upcoming sequel to Levi’s franchise. Fans of the first Shazam! movie will remember that a post-credit scene shows Levi’s superhero join his outcast foster brother Freddy Freeman at lunch in order to raise his profile around school. The scene ends with Superman walking in as well to further juice Freddy’s reputation, although his face is never shown, so Henry Cavill wasn’t necessarily on-hand for the cameo.

However, it’s possible that even a cameo from a major player like Superman may not fit into the already stuffed cast list of Black Adam. Recent rumors indicate that Dwayne Johnson’s star power gives the DC Extended Universe an opportunity to introduce a slew of new characters that will set the stage for the next post-Justice League phase of the franchise. Perhaps even a brief “hello” from Superman could overshadow key characters like Hawkman and Doctor Fate, who are already on the table as next entries into the DC Extended Universe canon.
